In our church we welcome new officers each January, and in the Presbyterian Church there are questions that each officer needs to answer. Call them questions, affirmations, vows. One in particular has been on my mind recently: Will you pray for and seek to serve the people with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love?

Will you pray for and seek to serve the people with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love?

Energy, intelligence, imagination, and love.

Great qualities in serving in the church, but certainly not limited to that context. Couldn’t we all use a little more of each of these? Where do you find these things in your own life? How do you nurture them? How do you refill them when you find them depleted?

Each one could feel in short supply these days.

Over the next four weeks, we’ll look at each one, think about from where we draw them, how we can preserve them, and ways we can share them.

I look forward to the conversation.
