There are volumes written about the best way to achieve your goals. The acronym SMART is all over the place. In order to achieve your goals, they must be:
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Relevant
Time bound
I don’t disagree at all. If you want to move forward in your life, you can’t simply make some abstract statement about what you would like and expect the universe to oblige.
I still ask the question: How smart are your goals?
In other words, is the goal you have set really the goal you want to achieve?
I have met many high performing people who have no problem achieving their goals. But they’re still unfulfilled. Why? Because they’ve set the wrong goal. They want to get fit, so they sign up for a marathon, but after the marathon, they go back to their old lifestyle. They want to be a more present spouse and parent, so they plan one amazing adventure. After the adventure? Back to the old grind.
Before you set your goal, ask yourself if this goal will truly bring you the satisfaction you are searching for. Why do you want to achieve it? What will achieving it do you for you?
Without the deeper dive, you could be the most accomplished, unfulfilled person you know.
If you would like to talk with someone who can help you find the accomplishment and fulfillment you’re looking for, let’s connect.
